Malaysia Air, GE In Engine Venture
General Electric Co. and Malaysia Airlines have set up an Aero Center of
Excellence, an aircraft engine overhaul center in Subang, right outside the
capital city.
The Aero Center of Excellence will begin operations in September 1997,
servicing engines of Malaysia Airlines' fleet and
GE's Asia Pacific customers who are currently serviced in the United States
and Europe.
Seventy percent of the joint venture center will be owned by GE and the rest
by MAS.
The venture will involve overhauling and repairing CFM International CFM56
engines as well as other engine types in the MAS fleet.
MAS will contribute its facility and work force to the venture, while GE
will bring in overhaul and repair processes, technology, international
