Ericsson Shares In Gripen Order

On Thursday of this year's Paris Air Show, the Swedish government announced its decision to purchase another 64 JAS 39 Gripen fighters. While the value of the deal for the aircraft wasn't disclosed, the follow-on value to at least one other supplier is. Sweden's Ericsson announced last week that it would get at least $130 million in orders for radar, computer and cockpit display systems for the aircraft.

The Gripen order is the third in a series of fighter orders from Sweden's Air Force to Industry Group JAS. The JAS 39 Gripen fighter is marketed by a partnership formed by Saab and British Aerospace in 1995.

The 64 aircraft will be delivered from 2003 to 2007. Ericsson's involvement is not limited to current technology. The company will also
