China Airlines
Orders Additional A300-600

Taipei-based China Airlines has placed an order with Airbus
Industrie for the purchase of an additional twin engine widebody
A300-600 for delivery in the first quarter of 1999. No value was
attributed to the order.
The aircraft is the 15th A300 to be ordered by China
Airlines, which operates a combination of A300B4s and A300-600s
on its extensive Asian network, as well as single-aisle A320s.
Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines, the aircraft will be
configured in a two-class layout, featuring 20 seats in Dynasty
Business Class and 245 seats in the main cabin.
China Airlines is the top passenger carrier in Taiwan. The
airline is in the process of taking delivery of 18 new aircraft
over the next two years.
The A300-600 is the latest model of the workhorse A300
series, the first Airbus aircraft. This version first entered
service in 1998; the first A300 entered service in 1974. The
A300 is part of Airbus Industrie's joint aircraft family that
also comprises the shorter fuselage version, A310. Airbus states
that together, the two models are the industry market leaders in
the 200-250 seat category, with a total of 748 firm orders from
82 customers accounting for 51 percent of all sales of aircraft
this size. Over 690 aircraft from the A300/A310 family currently
are in service with 84 operators.
The A300 and A310 have been especially successful in Asia,
according to Airbus, where the aircraft are the preferred choice
of almost every major airline for regional operations, with some
180 aircraft currently in service with 19 carriers.
