Northwest And Royal Dutch Airlines Not In Joint Venture
It seems KLM and Northwest Airlines have a change of plans. The two will not be creating a joint cargo company as part of their existing alliance. First sea satellite launch delayed
The first satellite launch from a sea platform has been delayed until October 1998. This makes the launch, backed by U.S. Russia, Norway and Ukraine firms, nearly four months behind schedule. Officials aren't divulging what the reason for the delay is, only to say that it is due to many different factors. The project involves using the converted oil rig, Odyssey, to fire Russian-made Zenits rockets from a position in the Pacific Ocean.

Reports indicate that U.S. aerospace companies and airlines are expected to oppose every federal proposal meant to prevent fuel-tank explosions on airliners. All except one -- adding insulation to air conditioning systems, which would help prevent the hazardous heating of fuel stores above. According to the FAA, it seems most of the measures recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board "would not significantly improve safety and could add new risks to complex modern airliners."

Apparently, Colombia was concerned that passenger flights between the two favored Panama's Copa, threatening harsh restrictions on Copa flights if changes were not implemented.
